Parks Victoria engaged OCULUS to develop the Draft Westgate Park Master Plan, with a vision for the Park to be a valued place of wellbeing; connecting communities. To realise the vision, the Westgate Park Master Plan provides a framework to conserve and celebrate Westgate Park’s natural, cultural and social values - “A park for everyone, by connecting everyone”. The Master Plan and the associated report provides guidance on future park changes and use.

The Westgate Park master plan has been developed over two years to align to the Fishermans Bend Framework and Open Space Strategy and has been informed by community recommendations sought through intensive community consultation. Consultation was undertaken with the support of the Friends of the Westgate Park as well as stakeholder engagement and project review through the Office of the Victorian Government Architect.

Through consultation, key themes emerged that have informed the master plan’s design, guiding principles and key initiatives.

The masterplan identifies opportunities for new open space precincts targeting both passive and active recreation with improved facilities. Key initiatives included: • a focus on improved connections to current and future public transport routes; • enhanced walking and bike trails • improved public amenities • creation of viewing decks and boardwalks; • structured and unstructured playspaces; • public art integration; and • improved integrated wayfinding and interpretative signage.
